Modesty: Does it Matter to God?

Hey, everyone! 😀

I would like to continue my modesty series today. I’m going to talk about if how we dress matters to God or not. Yes. Yes it does. But I’m not leaving you there! So, here we go. 😉

****

“Make it a goal that when a guy looks

at you, he will notice the light of CHRIST in your eyes, and

the radiance of your SMILE,

rather than being distorted by the outline of your body.”

~~Anonymous

Let’s face it, and be honest now, if you’re wearing short-shorts, skin-tight jeans, low-cut tops, or tank-tops that show your under-clothes, people are going to notice! It draws the eye. It’s distracting.

“… likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness– with good works.”                      (1 Tim. 2:9-10)

Your heart is important. Your relationship with God is everything, and people can see it by your countenance, appearance, and clothing. And all of those reflect your heart.

Girls, you know those days when it’s rainy and gloomy out, or you’re just having a bad day, and you want to wear comfortable sweats and t-shirts? We’ve all had them…  And how about the days when everything is going just as planned, or you got an awesome grade on a hard test, or you’re super excited about something? You want to wear your brightest and happiest outfit and you pick something really cute from your closet before you go out, right? Come on, I can’t be the only one! 😉 It’s true that what we wear, in even some small way, reflects who we are. It reflects what’s inside of us. So, if you’re a “woman who professes godliness” then what you wear should be reflecting Christ!

If you walk around with skin-tight jeans, short-shorts, etc., then people are going to see you as a woman of the world. Someone who wants to fit in with the image that the world thinks is right to imitate.

“Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.” (Pro. 11:22)

As women who profess godliness, we should be wanting to imitate Christ and what He calls modest and right.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Cor. 6:19-20)

If you have unbelieving friends that know you’re a Christian, then you should be trying your hardest to show them who Christ is. By the way you act and dress. They notice and will wonder what’s different about you, and then think about the opportunities that gives you to share the Gospel!

Here are two more questions that you should ask yourself when you’re evaluating what you’re wearing:

  • What does this outfit glorify? My body or my beliefs?
  • Would I be comfortable wearing this outfit before the throne of my Father in Heaven?

I hope this was helpful! Have a blessed rest of the day. 🙂
